I began this painting in the depths of winter as I looked out my window at our frozen garden. One day as I wandered outside I found a sunflower seed that was left from last year's flowers. I brought the little seed into my studio and used it as the inspiration for this abstract flower.
My process began by layering gesso on oak boards. On this clean white surface, I made a sketch of the flower. Next, I brought the image to life with acrylic paint. My final step was to scratch fine details into the painting with an x-acto knife.
All of my paintings are finished with an archival varnish to ensure longevity.
I recommend putting the painting in a space without direct sunlight to ensure color preservation.
