When I was a little girl my Grandma would take me to the back yard every spring and show me her flowering Bleeding Heart plant. We would delight in the way the flowers came apart and hid a secret white heart on the inside. This painting was inspired by a bouquet I harvested from my own garden. Mixed media- acrylic paint and carving on recycled oak board.

My process began by layering gesso on oak boards. I then made an observational drawing with my carving tool. After the initial carving was done I layered paint and carved until the painting was finished.

All of my paintings are finished with an archival varnish to ensure longevity.

I recommend putting the painting in a space without direct sunlight to ensure color preservation.
