This piece is from a series abstract drawings I made while living in Charlottesville, VA. I was reflecting on my relationship to community and playing with new media.
My process involves a lot of layers, often beginning with a simple pattern and then intuitively adding (with paint or colored pencil) or subtracting (scraping marks away with an x-acto knife) onto the design that emerges until the final image begins to show itself. The process is very healing and joyful—I never know what piece will look like when I begin!
